The latest episode of the Paddock Pass podcast is out, and features David Emmett and Steve English catch up after the last couple of rounds of World Superbikes, after both Assen and Imola. There was an awful lot to talk about, but the one subject we didn't discuss was Nicky Hayden's terrible cycling accident, which happened a day after we recorded. Please bear that in mind when you listen to the show. Naturally, our thoughts are with Nicky Hayden and his family, and we are hoping he makes a speedy recovery.

There was still plenty to talk about, however. Steve and David go over the events of Imola, and the many red flags which came out there after incidents on the track. We talk a little about the events that caused them, and debate whether there was anything that could be done to address them. We also weigh up the merits of a safety car at the track, and whether that would have made a difference.

We discuss the emphatic victories by Chaz Davies in Imola, and the fascinating races at Assen. We ask whether Jonathan Rea already has the title just about sewn up, and whether there is anything which could be done to stop him. And we ask who among the other riders is capable of taking on WorldSBK's power duo, and whether they can be beaten.

With Kawasakis and Ducatis monopolizing the podium, despite the new race 2 grid shake up, we ponder whether the rule change has made any difference. We also discuss the proposals being put forward to address the dominance of the two big factories, including spec electronics and some form of concessions system. Are there lessons to be learned from MotoGP in WorldSBK.

There is also the first signs of the rider market in WorldSBK being opened up. We talk about the possible consequences should Tom Sykes leave Kawasaki, and who could fill his shoes. We look at the other factories, and what they need to do to be competitive, and ask why the Honda has not been as strong as expected.
